TAFE Project: Subculture T-Shirt
Design Brief
Design a clothing brand based around a subculture.
Design Solution
The concept started with my love of video games, making my choice of subculutre easy. When going over ideas, including one featuring the ‘Dragon Punch’ motion for fighting games, a Tetris inspired idea with the tag line “I don’t fit in” cemented it as my choice.
The design uses pentominos instead of tetrominos to avoid potential copyright problems, and the use of bevelling was chosen to add depth to the image instead of flat shapes.
The brand logo is a handmade pixel font, 5 pixels wide, 6 pixels tall. The ‘GMER’ part is all captials while ‘wear’ is all lowercase, but with the Rs swapped. The text has shadows, with a major and minor one, with a strong red line constrasting with the blue and green (And fitting with a RBG theme). The exclamation mark is large to catch the eye and fit next to the entire logo.
The tag was made with thick cardboard with a black back, the cuts were then coloured in with black marker, and the paper was pasted on the white side.
